Go! Nautic - Menorca and the Balearics

The island of Menorca is an ideal spot for yacht sailing holidays

Menorca is truly a sailor's paradise and just a short hop away. The landscape consists of low hills and woods and aromatic herbs and shrubs. Dairy farming remains an important agricultural activity and the local cheeses are strongly recommended.

The coastline of Menorca is varied and often stunningly beautiful and natural. The coves have transparent turquoise water and the white virgin beaches are unforgettable. Local villages dotted around the coastline provide restaurants with a warm and welcome Menorcan atmosphere, along with some of the finest local cuisine.

If you feel the need to relax in beautiful surroundings and breathe some truly fresh air in the company of friends or family, then a yacht charter holiday in Menorca is the ideal solution.

Location of Menorca

Menorca is the most northern of Spain's Balearic Islands, situated in the middle of the Western Mediterranean.  Heading north takes you to mainland Spain and France, to the east lies Sardinia and due south is the coast of Africa.  Barcelona is the nearest major city at 150 nautical miles (280 km) away.

From east to west the distance is 53 km on Menorca and from north to south about 19.5 km. This provides the island with some 216 km of coastline and 120 different beaches, ranging from Son Bou beach with 3 km of sand to a range of tiny secluded inlets with barely enough space for 2 towels.

Menorca Climate

A central mediterranean climate is, in itself a guarantee of abundant sunshine.  There are rarely extremes of temperature; the winter average temperature is approximately 10ºC to 15ºC, spring and autumn ranges from 15ºC to 25ºC while the summer is from 25º to 33º.  The rainfall is low and usually arrives in heavy showers, often followed by the sunshine.  Menorca is possibly the best of the Balearic islands for sailing conditions, apart from the occasional "Tramontana" or north wind, the island enjoys light to moderate winds most days and frequent hot air currents in the summer months.  Sea temperature in the Mediterranean is between 14ºC in January and rises to about 30ºC in August,  maintaining warm temperatures of around 24ºC well into late October.
